UWS – Classrooms without Borders

Classrooms without Borders (101577) is an academic and practical unit which builds professional skills by enhancing pre-service teachers’ understandings of diverse groups in Greater Western Sydney. The unit uses engaged, work integrated learning to achieve this goal through a practical component requiring a minimum of 25 hours of service learning in community agencies within Greater Western Sydney Region.  The agencies range from school settings to community based agencies that provide support to children from a range of backgrounds and experiences.  In particular, the unit explores through service learning experience, ethical understandings and practices that may influence educational outcomes by providing opportunities to critically explore the nuances and subtleties of teaching and learning through individual and small group interactions.

Riding for the Disabled Association (NSW) Tall Timbers Centre has partnered with UWS for more than 10 years to provide placement to their students for mutual benefit.
